What does changemaking mean to you? How do you define what changemaking is to someone who's never heard the term?
Changemaking means bringing light into a dark situation. Changemaking starts with me sowing a grain of seed into the world to make an impact on something or on someone’s life positively. Sharing one’s experiences to motivate someone else who can relate and help them feel empowered to strive in life.
Why do you consider yourself a changemaker? What issues are at the center of your changemaking work?
I consider myself a changemaker because I’m not afraid to share my emotions and vision with others and to step out of my comfort zone. I consider myself to want to take the lead and take initiative on a belief, and not wait around on someone else to come do it but take lead to do it myself. Many people are accustomed to their way of living and accepting change can be scary for them. Committing to change can be a difficult challenge. To be a changemaker it is important to think about others by starting with yourself. The change needs to start with one’s self to project change in others.
What would you tell a student who would like to start their journey as a changemaker?
I would tell another student to step out of their comfort zone and not be afraid to speak up and share their voice because you never know who needs to hear those words and how many can benefit from your bravery.
