Sociology is the systematic study of human interaction and the institutions that arise from them. To study society, social relationships, social structures and social change, one must consider a wide range of subject matter. This area of study analyzes and explains the forces -- internal and external, personal or collective -- that shape our civilizations. From population migration to religious movements, from criminal history to the evolution of fashion, every meaningful matter that describes, concerns or impacts the human experience also informs the study of sociology. Coursework emphasizes liberal arts topics such as literature, cultural anthropology, theatre appreciation, history and introductory courses in sociology.
