Our Associate of Science in Funeral Service Education (FSE) program at Miami Dade College is divided into two parts: general education and major-specific courses. To qualify for admission, students need to complete general education courses in Composition, Humanities, Mathematics, Natural Science, Social Science, and Computer Competency with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Additionally, the program includes specialized courses essential for mastering funeral service practices. Admission Eligibility and Requirements

Coursework & GPA Requirement for Program Admission: Complete all general education coursework with a minimum of 3.0 GPA for program admission. This typically includes fulfilling coursework in Composition, Humanities, Mathematics, Natural Science, Social Science and Computer Competency..

GPA Requirement for Program Continuation: Maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA for graduation.

Academic Integrity: Students with three grades of “D”, “F”, or “W” in required Major courses will face removal from the program.

Academic Standing & Enrollment: Students must maintain a good standing and enroll in 9+ credit hours per major semester to remain in good standing. Failure to meet these requirements may lead to removal from the program.

Course Recency: FSE courses taken more than 3 years ago must be retaken or students must pass a competency test.

Admission Process

To apply for admission to the Funeral Service Education (FSE) program at Miami Dade College (MDC), follow these steps:

  1. Apply to Miami Dade College (MDC) - Complete the online application available on the MDC website.
  2. Submit Transcripts - Send your high school transcript and any college transcripts (if applicable) to MDC. You will need to wait until your transcripts are evaluated before proceeding. For updates on your evaluation, please contact the Evaluation Office at (305) 237-0440.
  3. Complete General Requirements and Pre-entry Courses - You must achieve a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  4. Attend FSE Orientation - Orientation for new and current students will be hosted at the beginning of each major semester (Spring and Fall; not offered during Summer). Attendance is mandatory before starting major courses.
